The internet is full of lots of pitfalls for the unsuspecting typical user. There are viruses, trojans, malware, spyware, back-doors, phishing scams, e-mail and credit card fraud and any other number of web scams and internet frauds. Chances are you have a virus program or firewall software of some sort (if you don’t we need to remedy this right away, contact us for details and we can get you setup), but did you know that most anti-virus softwares do not cover all those other internet perils. Usually separate software is required for trojans and malware and the like. Web Scam Watch can provide reviews and data on all of the type of software and help you select what is right to ensure the safety of your computer an information. This will even cover phishing, which involves fake websites that look like the real deal. You enter your personal data and credit card information, and it goes straight to the bad guy’s computer rather than purchasing that book or cd you wanted to order. A lot of these pieces of software will recognize this attempted trick and warn your straight away.
What software cannot do is stop you from yourself. Everyone has heard of the Nigeria money order fraud. You are contacted by someone claiming to be or represent a prince or someone in a foreign country who has received a large inheritance and is trying to avoid various issues and fees related to getting that money to the United States. The victim (you) has to front lots of wire and transfer fees in the thousands of dollars with the promise of tens of thousands in return. This money goes to the scammer and the victim never sees a dime. Now the dollar signs in your eyes might have you missing a few obvious things. First, they are trying to avoid customs fees and the like, this is illegal!! That should be the first tip-off that something is wrong. Secondly, you should also detect something wrong with fronting all fees and assessments before you even see a dollar of your “pay”. Common sense, sure, but a lot of people have lots tons of money to this scam.
Web Scam Watch lists all the common virus and computer software related scams and frauds, but we also seek to inform you of all those other types of scams, like the Nigerian Scam (It should be noted this scam originates in many different companies apart from Nigeria), and other e-mail based schemes and scams that you may not be aware of and that have no possible way of being detected by software apart from e-mail spam filters which are inconsistent at best. Visit Web Scam Watch daily and check the blog posts for the latest news and updates related to your internet security. We are here to look out for you!
